General Information

Entrants information pack

We have created a general information pack that can be downloaded here. It also contains maps of parking areas that may be useful to print and bring with you on the day.

PARKING

We operate a FREE ‘Park n Ride’ scheme because parking in the Harby is very limited and areas, that we historically used for parking, have been developed. Parking in private areas may no longer be available or may charge. We encourage all entrants to use the ‘Park n Ride’ scheme. There is a map to the ‘Park n Ride’ scheme here

Registration

Entrants need to register using the 'Register here' link on the home page. Once registered you will receive an automatic confirmation email. Check In opens at 07:00 at the Village Hall in Harby on the day of the event. There will be separate registration desks for each distance. At the point of check in you will be given your race bib. Registration is closed at least 2 weeks before the event.

Start and Finish

Both events start and finish at Harby Village Hall. There is a mass start at 09:00 from the hall and we ask that walkers remain at the rear to allow runners to set off first. Due to health and safety constraints all entrants must return or retire before 18:00.

Retirees

If you wish to retire please speak to a marshal at a checkpoint or out on the course. They will arrange for you to be picked up and returned to Harby Village Hall and your bid number to be marked as ‘Incomplete’. This will prevent us looking to retirees who are not on the course at the end of day.

Results

You can find your results by click on the Results link on the home page. Here you will be able to search for by your name to find your time. Here you also have the ability to search for other friends or family who have entered. From this page you will also be able to print your own certificate.

Medical Conditions

We encourage entrants to declare any relevant medical conditions as part of the registration process. We would also encourage entrants to write your medical condition on the back of your entry bib. This will benefit first responders and marshals should you require urgent assistance.

First aid

Qualified First Aiders are based at Harby Village Hall and out on the course. There are also a large number of marshals that have been trained as a First Responder. Should you need first aid during the challenge please speak to the nearest marshal.

Danger of Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis, also known as Weils Disease, can be contracted through contact with contaminated soil by bovine animals or rats. This can be passed from hand to mouth when eating using unwashed hands (common at feed stations).  Please be mindful of this while undertaking the Belvoir Challenge and make use of the anti-bacterial hand gel when eating at checkpoints.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DO YOU DO IF THE EVENT HAS SOLD OUT?

Once registration has closed we start to compile a waiting list based on a ‘first come’ basis. If you wish to be added to this list please follow the instructions of the home page. We will get in contact with you to advise if there are any available spaces due to cancellations etc. This will be approximately 2-3 weeks before the event.

HOW DO I MAKE CHANGES TO MY ENTRY?

Changes to your entry can be made up until we have to ‘lock down’ registration. This is done 2 weeks before the event and is to allow us to post bibs to those that have selected to do so. If you need to make a change, simply email us at enquiries@belvoirchallenge.com or fill and submit the form at the bottom of this page.

WHAT FOOTWEAR SHOULD I WEAR?

This is entirely your choice. Comfort is the main priority but we would add that in previous years the going has been mud, mud and more mud. Most walkers wear walking boots with gaiters or wellingtons; runners preferring trainers or boots.

WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?

In the event of serious weather conditions (or other unforeseeable circumstances), a notice will be put on the website home page informing that the event has been postponed. It is your responsibility to check before you set off. If the event is postponed, it will be held at a later date and all entrants transferred.

IF YOU CAN NO LONGER TAKE PART

We understand that there can be many reasons why you can no longer take part, which could be outside of your control. Most races and events do not offer any form of refund in these circumstances and like them we are also unable to offer a refund on all items. However, in fairness to all of our entrants, you can choose to defer your place to the following year or transfer you place to another person. Please our cancellation policy for more details.

CAN I ENTER ON THE DAY?

Yes, generally there will be places available on the day due to cancellations and ‘no shows’. If you would like confirmation before travelling, please get in touch with us..

CAN I CHANGE MY DISTANCE ON THE DAY I.E. 26 MILE TO 15 MILE?

We do allow this but  there will be a £5 administration fee. We can accept cash or card payments.

ARE CHANGING FACILITIES AVAILABLE?

Unfortunately due to space constraints there are no changing facilities in our village hall. Any clothing and valuables left in the village hall are left at your own risk.

IS THIS EVENT SUITABLE FOR MY CHILDREN?

We do allow children under 16 but only if they are accompanied by an adult. Only you can judge if your child is capable of walking/running 15 or 26 miles.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

No. The route covers private farm land, which has livestock grazing. Out of respect to the landowners and farmers dogs are not allowed on this event. So we would ask you please do not bring your dog to the event. Failure to comply with this rule may put the future of the event in jeopardy.

ARE THERE CHANGING FACILITIES & BAG DROP OFF POINTS?

We do not have any changing facilities s due to the size of our village hall. There is also no where to securely store your property. Any property is left in the hall is left at your own risk.

WILL THERE BE REFRESHMENTS?

Oh, yes! There are drinks and snacks at each checkpoint and hot food at the finish. All this is included in the entry fee. Most of our cakes and puddings are home-made and therefore cannot be guaranteed to be gluten free, wheat free, nut free, egg free, etc.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF COMPETITORS AND WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE LIMIT IS REACHED?

We have enforced a strict limit of 1200 participants for this event. When the limit is reached our entry system will automatically close. The website will also notify hopeful participants that the limit has been reached.

WHY DO IT NEED A NUMBERED BIB?

All entrants will have a race bib that is to be worn on the chest. This bib contains your timing chip that will register you as you start the event. It is an essential way of tracking participants as well as issuing you with you individual time. The different distances will have different colored bibs for easy identification.

HOW IS MY TIME CALCULATED?

As you cross the start and finish line your time will be captured by the timing chip in your bib. It is important that your bib remains secured to your chest, by the safety pins provided, so that your time can be accurately recorded.

ARE RUNNERS AND WALKERS SEPARATED?

Yes. The runners are encouraged to go to the front of the walkers before the start. Walkers are requested to hang back to let the runners set off.

DO I NEED ANY MONEY?

Bringing a small amount of money is a good idea as we ask for donations for tea & coffee in aid of our village hall fund.  T-Shirts and other merchandise are usually on sale at the event and we do accept payment cards.

CAN I BUY A T-SHIRT?

T-shirts will be available to purchase on the day. If you missed purchasing one on the day please get in touch.

ARE TOILETS AVAILABLE AT EACH CHECKPOINT?

Where we are able to use village halls, toilet facilities will be available.  However some checkpoints are placed at remote locations where we are unable to provide facilities.

WHEN WILL THE ROUTE BE POSTED ON THE WEBPAGE?

Approximately a few days before the event. As part of the course passes through private Belvoir Estate grounds, we do not encourage pre-route walkers.

DO I GET A MEDAL?

We are ever conscious about waste and due to the lack of demand we do not offer a medal. Instead we offer everyone that has completed the challenge a warm bowl of soup, bread rolls and a dessert.

Grantham, Melton Mowbray or Nottingham.
